"This is a relatively small portrait (17x17
inches), yet one I feel that works as a complete portrait, largely due to the sitter's expression. Her eyes contain the smallest of smiles, and the expression is not necessarily warm, but rather observant - as though you the viewer are being watched. I always enjoy this kind of expression as I feel it makes the portrait live rather than be a flat image to be viewed. To some extent it is rather a chilly portrait, yet I feel that adds to the slightly quirky composition." |
